Hemp Oil Chickpea Spread
There are certain items I always have in my pantry- and chickpeas are definitely toward the top of my "must have" real food pantry list! I buy them in bulk so I never run out.
Because we absolutely love roasted red pepper hummus and make it often, I wanted to come up with something similar, but made with hemp oil and some other tweaks.
Hemp oil has some tremendous health benefits, which you can read about here! I like to incorporate it into my diet when I can.
This spread is similar to hummus, but the consistency is thicker. I prefer a spread on sandwiches and in pitas.
Hemp oil chickpea spread is packed with some super delicious flavor and is very simple to whip up!
I make this with a blender, but if you have a food processor, you can use that if you wish.
How to Make Hemp Oil Chickpea Spread
Throw some chickpeas, hemp oil, and sesame oil (or tahini) in the blender and blend until smooth. You may have to push down the mixture a few times with a spatula in between blending. If the mixture is too thick and not blending well, you can add more hemp oil, half a teaspoon at a time, until it reaches the consistency you desire.
Then, mix in a freshly pressed garlic clove. If you don't have a garlic press, you can used minced garlic. Lastly, add in a little salt to taste. I use Himalayan pink salt because it has more nutrients in it than table salt.
There are so many uses for this hemp oil chickpea spread. It's great on a sandwich with veggies or leftover chicken. My son absolutely loves it in a pita with spinach. You can also use it in place of your usual condiments on a burger! Or, serve it as a dip with some chips or veggies.
