Don’t get me wrong – I love making the effort to create a delicious homemade pizza complete with yeast dough. But sometimes I need pizza, like, immediately, you know?

Let’s forget the oven and use the microwave today to make some vegan pizza in a mug!

This recipe is made with simple ingredients you probably already have on hand, and is so fun to get creative with. Top with veggies, your favorite vegan sausage, or keep it simple with some melty dairy-free cheese!

Keep in mind that the “crust” in this mug pizza is more like a biscuit rather than a traditional crispy pizza crust. It is absolutely amazing in its own right, but I just want to make sure you aren’t surprised and expecting a regular pizza crust.

A bag of Violife mozzarella shreds.

🧀 Ingredients

My favorite vegan cheeses to use for this recipe are the Violife mozzarella shreds and Miyoko’s mozzarella. Both melt beautifully!

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon apple cider vinegar or white vinegar

🥣 Instructions

I recommend using a large, wide mug to make mug pizza. I got these jumbo mugs on Amazon and they are perfect. If you only have smaller mugs, you may need to halve the recipe ingredients.

  1. Mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, garlic powder, and basil in the mug.
  2. Stir in the water, olive oil, and apple cider vinegar.
  3. Microwave for 30-45 seconds, or until the top no longer looks wet and doughy. This is to create a barrier between the dough and the sauce so they don’t mix together when cooking.
  4. Spread the pizza sauce on top of the dough, then sprinkle on the vegan cheese and dried herbs.
  5. Microwave for an additional 1 minute and 30 seconds. Check to see if the crust is cooked through. If it’s still doughy, microwave for another 15 seconds at a time until cooked.
  6. Let cool for about a minute before eating.

🍕 Variations

Gluten-free: To make this recipe without gluten, replace the all-purpose flour with a 1-to-1 gluten-free flour.

Toppings: Get creative and use your favorites! I have made this recipe with chopped bell peppers, sliced cherry tomatoes, and Field Roast Italian sausage. You can also try mushrooms, jalapenos, roasted garlic, pineapple…just like regular pizza!

The “crust” for this mug pizza is more like a biscuit texture. Don’t expect a perfect crispy pizza crust, like you would with a traditional pizza!

Great recipe that my whole family loved. It was a different and creative way to have a vegan pizza. It is hard to find a good vegan pizza in my area when I want one. I have to go far out my way to find good vegan pizza.

The dough at the bottom didn’t have near the same texture as pizza dough and ate less than half before it felt like a rock in my stomach. 2/10 Just make normal pizza it doesn’t take much longer, or just put all the stuff you would put on top of a pizza in a pan for a few minutes.

This is great! I actually increased it by half, using 1/2 c all-purpose flour and 1/4 c whole wheat flour, and I cooked it in a large soup bowl. This way, I was able to use more sauce (I like a saucy pizza ^^). I added mushrooms, chopped garlic, onions, bell peppers, black olives, and Frontier Co-op’s pizza seasoning. Homemade vegan mozzarella topped it all off, and it was yummy! This is my new go-to recipe for days when I don’t have time or energy to roll out a crust. Thanks for sharing this recipe!

    1. I just made it in the oven tonight and it worked fine. Set oven to 375F and I put them in little Pyrex dishes. I put the dough in for 10 minutes and then put sauce and toppings on it and back in the oven for 30 min to cook the dough through. If I were to do it again I’d probably cook the dough for 20 and then the sauce and toppings for 15.
